Click above for hi-res gallery of the Ferrari California
For the unveiling of its first front-engined V8 sportscar, Ferrari rolled out a dedicated launch site. But up until now, the site (as well as the company's media portal) only gave us a glimpse at a handful of studio shots. Germany's
AutoBild, meanwhile, managed to obtain a handful of new shots of the California out in the open, inside and out and front to back. Natural sunlight seems to soften the sportscar's lines a fair deal... but don't take our word for it: Check out the images in the gallery below to see for yourself.

Ferrari California to Maserati GT as Dodge Caravan to Chrysler T&C.
I wonder what badge-engineered marvel will come from Italian premium next.
Ultima GT-R @ Jun 24th 2008 8:49PM
This is not at all badge engineering..at least not at the level of Caravan and Town-n-Country

have you even seem the maserati GT? it's a rather large 4 seater (in that it can seat 4 adults quite comfortably) with a fixed roof, this is a small 2 seater with a folding roof, they have absolutely nothing in common

Maybe I'm a freak, but I just can't get too excited about this design. The rear is interesting, but as a whole it's simultaneously overstyled and cliched, and dare I say it, somewhat generic, in a Japanese GT kind of way. Perhaps too much like an Italian Supra? Then again, Ferraris haven't done much for me stylistically in a long while.
Moose @ Jun 24th 2008 8:45PM
You are not a freak... I find it totally underwhelming. I had the exact same initial sentiment of it feeling somehow more Japanese than Italian.
The gills seem tacked on and cheap, the rear is interesting in parts but clumsy, the 3/4 view is just plain dull, and the front is banal.
Just seems overdesigned to me... Give me modern styling, but more elegance and simplicity.
The interior is one of the nicer ones I've seen in a long time from Ferrari though. I'll give them that.

Nothing about it excites me either besides the gauges.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter what you think. It matters what rich housewives think as now they will buy this instead of the Mercedes SL
Lucas @ Jun 24th 2008 8:17PM
I will not buy that as a Ferrari even if I have the money for it.
zamafir @ Jun 24th 2008 8:33PM
x2, quite ugly, in fact, the most ugly non cohesive design i've ever seen from ferrari. no real flow, just a hog pog of cheap bits, it screams 'hey, im sharing a chassis with alfa and im trying to cut costs'.
MachinaDC5 @ Jun 24th 2008 8:20PM
It's good, but it's not great...
PAC-3 @ Jun 24th 2008 8:35PM
Nissan once had a model called 'Sunny California'
kamil @ Jun 24th 2008 8:38PM
Honestly the rear is so tall and busy. Ferrari has really lost its luster
kamil @ Jun 24th 2008 8:43PM
Why Ferrari, its like a wannabe Ferrari, the 430 is clean, the 599 elegant, ignore the 612 (no one really acknowledges it) and Ferrari is relatively beautiful. this is just ugly. I am sorry but Aston and Lambo far exceed it
Josh @ Jun 25th 2008 12:25AM
I actually like the looks of the 612, pretty classy in my book but the back seat... eh...
More of an Aston Martin design fan myself - elegance through simplicity and this thing certainly doesn't hold the simplicity to be considered elegant...
Version 1.0 @ Jun 24th 2008 8:44PM
this MAY sound stupid to some of you, but uhh, wheres the gear knob?
komamura @ Jun 24th 2008 9:12PM
I dont think there been a gear knob on a ferrari Since the 360. there all paddle shifted now adays
Js @ Jun 24th 2008 8:45PM
I honestly have to say that I like it more with the roof up than down. It's not ugly with the roof down, but for me personally the design flows better with the roof in place. I also have to say that I really dislike the "smile" I see in the shots of the front. It looks to happy to be a Ferrari... That front grille should have been different. I am really curious though as to how it will drive...
Mitchttj @ Jun 24th 2008 8:47PM
It's deserving of the american name on it. Thats for sure.
BlackCanary @ Jun 25th 2008 8:10AM
You're a douche bag.
