If you couldn't tell by all the previews for Geneva we've been posting, the upcoming Swiss-based motor show is a big one, one of the biggest of the year in the world. Italdesign Giugiaro has been building concept cars for shows like this one going on 40 years now. It made a huge splash at the 2006 LA Auto Show when the wraps were pulled off of the Giugiaro Mustang, so now any car under cover of Giugiaro has our curiosity piqued. The Italian design firm has begun releasing teaser images of its latest concept that will debut in Geneva, and from the veiled glimpses we get, it's looking pretty sharp. The unnamed concept (it apparantly ends in "ANTA") is appearing in conjunction with Giugiaro's 40th anniversary, so we expect a stunner. The Giugiaro Mustang, however, is a tough act to follow.

It really bothers me that Giugiaro can develop these concept cars but doesn't bother to design wheels for them. This is the second concept in a row that uses stock O.Z. wheels. The Giugiaro Mustang used the O.Z. Palladio, and this one uses the O.Z. Botticelli.

It bothers me even more when someone designs a new car and puts ridiculously ugly "modern" wheels on when something tried and true would be much more fitting. Don't get me wrong, wheel design can be improved upon, but it's not often that it actually is.
P.S. I really dig the wheel choice on the new concept.

I can think of a lot better looking stuff Giugiaro has done besides that Mustang. Original Lotus Esprit anyone?
The new concept looks interesting. Seems like they could do something a bit better with the wheels, but I prefer them over the usually ugly "futuristic" 22-inch wheels that every designer seems to make a prerequisite on their designs these days.

"..anta". Given that this concept was done to commemorate Ital Design's 40th Anniversary, this new concept is probably an homage to one of Guigiaro's first; the Bizzarini Manta. The front and rear tease shots seem very evocative of that car.

The Bizzarrini Manta was THE first-ever Ital Design car. Up until then, Giorgetto Giugiaro had worked for Bertone and Ghia. At one of 1968's major European auto shows (Either Turin or Frankfurt, I'm not sure), it marked the debut of the Ital Design company.

As much as I would love the Manta reference, the spacing just doesn't seem right, as the name would only take the right part of the bumper. I'm betting it will be named "Quaranta", meaning "40" in Italian.

Only the thumbnail looks like ANYA. The full-size clearly says ANTA.
